Deandra Christianson, MA, LCPC, NCC, CCMHC, CDWF

National Director of Operations, Residential Eating Disorder Division

Deandra Christianson received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and then continued on to receive her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. While in her Master’s program she earned a Counseling Specialization and focused on treatment of children and adolescents. She is currently completing her PhD in Organizational Leadership at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Deandra has been with Center for Discovery in many capacities, both clinical and administrative, since 2013. She has been afforded many opportunities to speak at conferences and other engagements throughout the country. Deandra has worked with people with eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, mood disorders, and other co-occurring issues in both residential and outpatient treatment settings. Additionally, she has worked with schools in program development and implementation that focuses on student leadership and bullying prevention and intervention. Deandra is passionate about her work, as well as, eating disorder awareness, advocacy, and treatment.

Andrea Ciarlelli, LMFT

Andrea Ciarlelli is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders for adolescents and their families. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University and later earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the same institution.

Ms. Ciarlelli has worked with adolescents and adults in various levels of care including Residential Treatment Centers, Therapeutic Group Homes, Intensive Outpatient Programs, Crisis Stabilization Programs and Outpatient Mental Health Clinics. Ms. Ciarlelli has extensive experience treating adolescents with complex psychiatric issues including: eating disorders, psychotic disorders, mood dysregulation, self-injurious behaviors and trauma. She approaches therapy utilizing a structural family therapy framework and believes that the support and inclusion of families in treatment is critical to the healing process. Ms. Ciarlelli is also an adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University in the Psychology Department, where she teaches Infant and Child Development, Adolescent Psychology and Abnormal Psychology as needed.

Julia Cassidy, CEDS-S

Director of Dietary Services- Adult ED RTC

Julia Cassidy is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and has worked at Center For Discovery for over 10 years. She develops and maintains Center For Discovery’s nutrition program and oversees its implementation at each of Center For Discovery’s programs nationwide. Julia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from California State University-Long Beach and her Masters in Exercise Science and Fitness at California University of Pennsylvania.

Julia’s belief is having a healthy relationship with food through balanced nutrition is the baseline to attaining the tools necessary while on the road to recovery. The core ingredient for success for patients with eating disorders can be summed up in the words of Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Erika Flax, LCSW

Program Director

Erika Flax is the program director at the Fairfax Center for Discovery residential treatment center for adolescents. She completed her undergraduate degree at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland and her master’s in social work at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. Formerly, Erika has worked as an intensive in home therapist, a crisis prevention and intervention worker for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and a therapist in a partial hospitalization program. Erika has special interests in facilitating dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy in both the individual and group setting. Erika is excited to join the Center for Discovery residential treatment center in Fairfax.

Georgia Meyers, M.A.Ed., LPC

Primary Therapist, Clinical Supervisor

Georgia is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has specialized in treating adolescents and their families since 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University and later received a Master’s degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Community Counseling from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has worked exclusively with adolescents in various levels of care, including Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Programs, and outpatient therapy. She has received intensive training in evidence-based treatment modalities, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She believes that the support and inclusion of families in treatment is critical to the healing process.

Maureen Gately, RD

Registered Dietitian

Maureen studied at James Madison University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in dietetics. She completed her clinically focused dietetic internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in 2011. Maureen is now a licensed Registered Dietitian and has over two years experience working with the eating disorder population. She is excited to teach clients basic cooking skills and help them challenge their food fears. Maureen is also excited to work with the strong clinical team at Center For Discovery.

Natalie Irvin, MD

Physician

Dr. Irvin is a board certified family physician with expertise and experience in the management of medical complications of eating disorders. For over 6 years, she has worked exclusively in the eating disorders and weight management field. She has experience with managing eating disorders for adolescents and adults in the outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential, and inpatient level of care.

Dr. Irvin earned her undergraduate degree in Psychobiology B.S. at the University of Southern California. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She is looking forward to utilizing her skills and working closely with the treatment team at Center For Discovery for improved health and healing of adolescents with eating disorders.

Tatiana Menick, MD

Psychiatrist

A Board-certified psychiatrist, Tatiana Menick, M.D. completed her four-year residency training in psychiatry in the St Elizabeths Hospital Psychiatry Residency Program, Washington, DC,

Dr. Menick has more than ten years’ experience conducting pharmacotherapy and individual and group psychotherapy in community mental health clinics.

She provides psychiatric consultation for Center for Discovery Virginia and also maintains a thriving private practice. She is the first author of multiple articles appearing in the International Journal of Child Health and Human Development and Environment, Mood Disorders and Suicide and other books.

Jihaan Hachim

Facility Manager

Jihaan Hachim is the Facility Manager at Center for Discovery. Jihaan graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. She has worked with adolescents for seven years. Previously, Jihaan worked as a counselor at Center For Discovery where she was able to gain her experience with eating disorders. In the past, Jihaan has also worked in homes as an ABA therapist for individuals with intellectual disabilities and as a teacher in daycare and public schools. Jihaan’s past experience has helped her gain the confidence needed to work at a residential facility for adolescents. Her energetic, bubbly and welcoming personality has helped her shape positive relationships with adolescents throughout her journey at Center For Discovery. Jihaan loves making a difference and impact in a child’s life. Jihaan continues her journey to become a therapist by pursuing her Masters in Professional Counseling.
